After the Fire – The First 24 Hours

SAFETY FIRST:

DO NOT enter the home until the fire department has declared it safe to do so. Verify that gas, water, and electric utilities have been turned off. Be sure that any fire investigation is complete, before disturbing potential evidence. Ask a fireman for help if a pet is trapped or lost. Safety is always first!

HAVE YOUR HOME SECURED:

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to protect the property by board-up, roof tarp, and water clean-up services provided as soon as possible. This reduces further damage to the home and secures your belongings. You may call Haldeman Construction 24 hours a day at 530-885-8085 for these services. Insurance companies will usually reimburse for these emergency measures.

CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY:

Call your insurance company as soon as possible, to report and discuss the loss. They will send out an adjuster to begin inspecting the claim . Haldeman Construction can work in close cooperation with your adjuster, to assure the most accurate repair settlement.  We will also assist you, by making the reconstruction experience both easy and efficient.

GATHER AND DOCUMENT YOUR BELONGINGS:

Once the fire department has granted permission to enter the home, gather your personal valuables, phone numbers, computer equipment, insurance policies, and important documents. It also advisable to create a notebook inventory of your contents, and take photos and/or videos of all damage

BE SMART:

Be sure and choose a reputable local contractor to rebuild your dreams. In addition to providing quality construction, an accomplished fire restoration contractor will be your advocate and consultant throughout the insurance claims process.
